Huawei to Double its UK Workforce to 1,000 over Three Years


The recruitment drive by Huawei's UK headquarters in Basingstoke, comes as the company plans to further extend its enterprise and device business base.
Huawei also plans to generate a further 1,000-1,500 subcontracting roles over three years, and currently has around one hundred vacancies open ranging from permanent to fixed term contract roles across its UK business. In a bid to attract a new generation of talent, Huawei is in the process of developing a formal UK graduate programme.
"We are committed to bringing more job opportunities to the UK which is a key market for us," said Victor Zhang, Chief Executive of Huawei UK. "As one of the leading technology vendors in the world, Huawei has been implementing its localization strategy for many years. An increase in employees in our UK office will help us to provide more customised and innovative products and solutions for British telecom carriers, enterprise customers and consumers."
Huawei is also establishing new European and global centres of excellence to be based in the UK over the next twelve months, these will focus on areas including business consultancy, finance and auditing.
"Basingstoke is home to companies from many countries but we are particularly pleased to play host to the UK's largest Chinese investor," said Cllr Andrew Finney, Leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. "Huawei not only provide excellent job opportunities but also support our local community. It is great to see them growing so strongly."
In December 2010, Huawei opened a Cyber Security Evaluation Centre in Banbury, UK, with the aim of enhancing the reliability and security of telecoms networks, based on industry best practices and international standards.
Huawei was first established in the UK in 2001 and relocated to Basingstoke, Hampshire in 2003. Currently, it has around 500 employees, 75% of which are recruited locally.
